This factory model is somewhat unusual and only one copy may have been made. Created by or for Sud Aviation it is a representation of a ballistic missile shown in its transport container.
This piece made of cast aluminum comprises various metal components and subcomponents. First comes different parts of the container: a one-piece or a two-piece unit, then four protective elements inside the container, and lastly the missile itself made of two parts held with a magnet, the entire piece being protected by a wood transport case. This presentation model was likely designed for official presentations of the project to the Army rather than be showcased at pro-fairs.
This model may have been associated to a project but remains undetermined even though it looks like the ballistic missile “S1” made by the same manufacturer, albeit a slightly longer nose cone.
This piece is in very good condition* most likely because of the transport case, a notable fact as the model obviously dates back to the ’60s.
The container is 50 cm (19.7") long and 6,5 cm (2.6") in diameter. The missile itself is 42,5 cm (16.70") long with a diameter of 5,5 cm (2.2"). This is an interesting piece not only because of its representation but also because of its multi-module elements that allow for various display options.
*only one small metal rod is missing on the side of the container.
