Restoration of a DC-8 UTA: the same but better

Restoration of a DC-8 UTA: the same but better

For this project everything started with a 1/50 model in the UTA livery which dimensions didn’t match to the version represented: it had the proportions of the 50 series but the decoration (decals) and the engines were those of the 60 series.

The client decided to replace the four engines and completely redo the livery. Additionally we took the opportunity to create the scoops in the nose which were absent despite being very characteristic of this aircraft.

First of all, the model had to be completely sanded and the engines removed, the scoops were crafted onto the nose and new engines were designed in 3D then printed in resin.

After several hours of work, we moved on to the final phase of this restoration, but not the least: painting and decoration. The livery remained the same, but this time it was entirely painted, except for the Pratt & Whitney logos on the engines which ara decals.

The customer was satisfied with the result and that’s the main thing!
